Russia-India Alliance Strengthened by Trump’s Tariff Threats

by admin477351

US President Donald Trump’s recent threats of higher tariffs against India have inadvertently strengthened the Russia-India strategic partnership. On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov declared that attempts to “force countries to stop trading with Russia is illegal,” a statement that directly supported India’s right to independent trade.

Trump’s warning came in a social media post where he accused India of profiting from the purchase of Russian oil and showing indifference to the war in Ukraine. He vowed to “substantially” raise tariffs on Indian goods, building upon the 25% tariff that the US had already imposed on August 1.

The Indian government has also stood its ground, issuing a strong-worded statement that accused the US and EU of “unjustified and unreasonable” targeting. The Ministry of External Affairs affirmed that India would take all necessary steps to “safeguard its national interests and economic security,” a clear sign of its refusal to back down.

The unified front presented by Russia and India highlights the limits of American economic coercion. Both nations are asserting their right to make sovereign decisions regarding their trade and foreign policy. The situation reveals a new dynamic in global affairs, where emerging powers are increasingly willing to challenge the dictates of established superpowers.
