Rupert Grint is making a return to the world of Harry Potter, reviving his iconic role as Ron Weasley in the Broadway adaptation of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” This marks his re-entry into the magical universe over a decade after the Harry Potter film series concluded. Grint will grace the stage for a 17-week engagement starting in February 2027, reconnecting with a character he first brought to life as a child alongside his co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.
The British actor expressed his excitement about revisiting Ron Weasley, stating that the character has been a part of him since he was 11 and that portraying Ron at this stage of life, where both he and Ron are fathers, brings a fresh yet familiar dynamic. This casting follows Tom Felton’s recent involvement in the same production, where he reprised his role as Draco Malfoy. Felton’s Broadway stint is set to wrap up in January.
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” originally premiered in London in 2016 and has since expanded to stages across the globe. The production has achieved significant success, selling over 14 million tickets worldwide, with the New York version alone generating more than $532 million in revenue.
Beyond his role in the Harry Potter films, Grint has built a diverse acting portfolio. He made his Broadway debut in 2014 with the comedy “It’s Only a Play” and has appeared in various films, including “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.”
Grint’s return to the Harry Potter realm coincides with the development of a new television series based on the franchise for HBO, an endeavor that aims to introduce the magical world to a new generation of fans.
