China’s foreign trade experienced robust expansion in the first eight months of this year, with the total value of goods imported and exported reaching 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This represents a significant year-on-year increase of 17.6%. Export activities in particular showed a substantial rise, climbing 14.6% to a total of 20.17 trillion yuan, while imports surged by 22%, reaching 14.61 trillion yuan.

The pace of trade growth picked up even more in August, with the cumulative value of goods traded, including both imports and exports, climbing to 4.65 trillion yuan. This marked a notable 19.8% increase compared to the same period last year. August’s figures reveal an 18.6% rise in exports alongside a 21.7% increase in imports, highlighting a dynamic trade environment.

For four consecutive months, both exports and imports have consistently seen double-digit year-on-year growth. Notably, import growth has outpaced export growth over the past six months, indicating a particularly strong performance in the import sector.

This sustained growth underscores the resilience and competitiveness of China’s trade sector amidst the global economic landscape. The continuous upward trajectory in both imports and exports reflects an adaptive economy responding to international demand and domestic consumption patterns.
