Shengji Tunnel Opens in Taipei, Eases Traffic and Reduces Travel Time

by admin477351

A newly opened tunnel in Taipei is set to significantly reduce travel times and improve traffic flow in the bustling Nangang District. The NT$1.878 billion Shengji Tunnel connects Zhongxiao East Road with the access road leading to the National Biotechnology Research Park, offering a faster route between Nangang and Sijhih District in New Taipei City.

This development is particularly beneficial during peak hours, as it is expected to cut travel time between the research park and the vicinity of Nangang Station from 15-20 minutes to under 10 minutes. The Shengji Tunnel stretches approximately 824 meters, including a 716-meter tunnel section, and is designed to alleviate congestion on Zhongxiao East Road Section 7 and Academia Road.

Furthermore, the tunnel provides an essential alternative route during flooding and other emergencies that may affect Academia Road. Recognizing the needs of all commuters, the project also includes separate pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, ensuring safe and efficient travel for non-motorized traffic.

The National Biotechnology Research Park, since its opening in 2018, has been a hub for over 2,600 researchers and professionals, significantly contributing to the growth of biomedical research and biotechnology activities in the region. The improved accessibility offered by the Shengji Tunnel is expected to further enhance the park’s role in the area’s development.
