Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting secured her second consecutive Asian Games boxing gold medal by defeating China’s Yang Chengyu 5-0 in the women’s 60kg final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. This victory marks a significant milestone for Lin, who previously claimed the women’s 57kg gold at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Lin’s triumph in Aichi-Nagoya is her first major international title since moving up to the 60kg weight class, a decision made following her Olympic gold medal win at the 2024 Paris Games. The competition presented challenges for Lin, particularly in her bout against Kazakhstan’s Viktoriya Grafeyeva in the opening round. Notably, Lin overcame Grafeyeva, who had defeated her earlier this year in the World Boxing Cup final.

In her reflections on the Asian Games victory, Lin emphasized the personal significance of this achievement, especially given the difficulties she has faced throughout her career. After her Olympic success, Lin had contemplated retirement, but ultimately chose to continue her journey in the sport.

As of now, Lin Yu-ting has not decided whether she will return to defend her Olympic title at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Her recent triumph at the Asian Games has certainly reinforced her status as a leading figure in international boxing, showcasing her adaptability and resilience in a new weight class.
